Frequently Asked Questions?

What are the admission requirements in a US university?

A valid passport
Academic transcripts (10th, 12th, UG as applicable)
Standardized exam scores (SAT/ACT for undergraduate; GRE/GMAT for graduate)
English marks (TOEFL/IELTS/PTE)
Statement of Purpose, Letters of Recommendation
Proof of finance or student loan

How does the F‑1 student visa process function?

Once you have gained admission, your university will send you an I-20 form (SEVP-accredited). You pay the SEVIS fee, fill out the DS-160 form, book an embassy interview, and organize required documents: I‑20, DS-160 confirmation, proof of finance, academic transcripts, passport, and visa photo

What can I expect from the US F‑1 visa interview?

Interviewers hear four broad categories:
Your past educational experience and test performance
Why did you select the US and your university/program?
Your sources of funds and financial preparedness
Your post-study plans and connections with India

Is it possible to work while studying on an F-1 visa in the United States?

Yes. During your time as a student, you can work up to 20 hours/week on campus. You can also be eligible for off-campus opportunities, such as Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT), including the STEM OPT extension, which can last up to 36 months post-graduation.

Do I need to take the GRE or GMAT to apply to US universities?

It depends on the course and the university. For master's programs, the GRE or GMAT remains the choice of the majority of top universities, although some have made them optional since the COVID-19 pandemic. A study abroad consultant will advise you according to your profile and will shortlist the universities where these tests are waived.
